Emily Habansky grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut and has lived in Oakland, California for 11 years. She has an AAS Jewelry Design Studio degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and she graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design’s Jewelry and Metalsmithing program. It was during this time Emily was in design school that she explored many different mediums: ceramic hand building, pottery, extensive art history classes (seeing thousands of slides of images of art) painting classes, conceptual art philosophy classes, textiles, figure sculpture, and photography in addition to her primary metalsmithing discipline. She studied UX UI design in San Francisco in 2022.
After graduating from RISD in 2008, Emily began exploring abstract, multi media painting.
She has created, exhibited and sold her original work for 18 years. She enjoys exhibiting her work in collaboration with local businesses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. It is very important for her work to be seen by the community and for her collectors to have an original piece of art from her that is impactful.
During the pandemic, Emily developed a new process, combining both her digital photography of places throughout the Bay Area and applies acrylic paint over them. She has been nailing these multimedia paintings on prints into birch panel which serves as a smart alternative to having to frame the piece.
It is inherent to Emily to allow her curiosity to pull her towards inspiration in ways to reinvent her process and evolve through her painting practice. Her knowledge of color theory and style of expressive mark making in combination with her photography takes her narratives and creative process further. Her designs are enhanced through this multimedia approach to painting.
